The Laborers' International Union of North America, through
its Laborers' AGC Education and Training Fund provides
health and safety, environmental and construction skills
training to Laborers and their contractors across North
America. Each year, through more than 75 state of the
art training facilities, more than 86,000 Construction
Craft Laborers participate in these programs.
A Solid Foundation. The
Laborers-AGC has long provided high quality training programs
to Laborers working in the heavy and highway, building
construction, utility, and environmental remediation sectors
of the industry. The Fund's comprehensive and standardized
courses are designed to prepare Laborers to enter the
work force with core skills that make them productive
and safe from the outset of their careers. Advanced courses
allow journey workers to upgrade their skills and knowledge
as they seek new employment opportunities, or keep pace
with changing technologies.
Preparing Laborers to Meet the
Challenges of a Changing Industry. Starting with
Member Orientation, LIUNA
members can pick and choose from a full range of quality
training and education opportunities such as hazardous
waste remediation, drilling/blasting and tunnel mining,
asbestos and lead paint abatement, concrete placement,
nuclear remediation, mason tending, and pipe laying. As
Construction Craft Laborers advance along their individual
career paths, they can access appropriate training, acquire
education, and reach personal goals that include supervisory
positions and even college credit - a tremendous value
to those seeking to advance their education and their
career within the industry.
A Strategic Plan for the Future.
The Fund has spent considerable time and resources developing
its second Strategic Plan for Laborers' Training. The
new plan provides vision and direction for Laborers-AGC
into the new millennium. Innovative initiatives and strategies
address lifelong learning, marketing and recruitment,
skill standards development, total quality management,
funding and financial management, curriculum development,
and organization-wide communication. The plan ensures
that through training, the Fund will continue to improve
the quality of life for LIUNA
members and expand the competitive position of union employers.
